* Nominal Torque (aka Rated Torque) is published by all manufacturers but is actually a theoretical calculation that ignores the 15% - 20% efficiency loss present in all rigs.

* Actual Torque is the usable torque at the tool determined through testing of every Watson rig. This value is not typically shared by manufacturers.

**Varies depending on excavator mount and bars

EX20 key ADVANTAGES

  • VARIABLE DRIVE HYDRAULIC ROTARY SYSTEM

The variable displacement rotary enables shiftless operation from 25,000 ft-lbs  to 100 rpm spinoff. Without clutches, gear changes or sensors, simplicity, and thus reliability is achieved.

  • FULL EXCAVATOR POWER

Hydraulics are designed to harness the full horsepower of the excavator and deliver it to both the tool and the winch for maximum production.

  • LARGER DIAMETER ROTARY

The larger the rotary, the bigger the Kelly bars, the bigger the bearings, the less wear and tear.  Larger diameter also means more kelly bars for greater depth without trading off kelly tube thickness and drive lug area.

  • FULL length TOP CROWD

Full length top applied crowd force drills straighter holes and simplifies Kelly locking.

  • SINGLE LAYER, GROOVED KELLY WINCH drum

The Kelly winch is fitted with a rear roller and a large diameter grooved drum big enough to keep all of the wire rope on one layer.  Speed and consistent linepull are achieved along with excellent rope management and long rope life.

  • PROPRIETARY CONTROLLED FREEFALL KELLY WINCH

Watson's proprietary controlled freefall winch achieves the performance of prior freefall systems with even greater control over the tool while rapidly descending down the hole. The freefall is combined with a variable speed motor giving the EX unbeatable cycle times.

  • OPTIMIZED and iNDEPENDENT HYDRAULIC INTERFACE

Integration to the excavator has been carefully managed to limit the overlap of the systems by providing dedicated valves for the drill. By cleanly separating the two systems, diagnostics, servicing and maintenance of the drill can be distinct from the excavator.

  • INTERCHANGEABLE SQUARE friction OR ROUND locking KELLY BARS

Heavy duty Kelly bars made from high strength alloy steel are standard on Watson rigs. The EX series has the capability to quickly and easily switch between square or round locking bars to best suit your drilling needs for a given job.

  • Patented round locking bars

Watson has always built the heaviest duty round locking kellys in the business. The latest generation incorporates patented features designed to eliminate the hassle of finding locks while vastly extending the time between servicing. With 4x the torque surface and 6x the crowd surface or most competition, customers are able to go years between refurbishing bars.  Additionally, open bottom design allows easy drainage for slurry drilling.  Call for details.

  • TOOL REACH

Boom mounted design brings versatility unmatched by mobile mounted rigs. Tool reach of more than 10 ft from the tracks can be achieved on the proper excavator.

  • REDUCED WEIGHT and smaller excavator classes

Unique trunnion & rotary design of the EX series transfers drilling loads directly from the rotary to the mast thereby reducing weight and stress on the mast.  This weight savings allows the machine to be mounted on smaller excavator classes than previous generations of Excadrills.

  • EASY TRANSPORT

The low weight of the EX20 allows for easy affordable transport and can even be loaded onto a standard stepdeck trailer.

  • CUSTOMIZATION to fit customer application

WATSON is a custom manufacturer that welcomes the opportunity to customize rigs.  EX rigs can be mounted to numerous makes and models of excavators and further modified to fit specific applications requirements like railcar mount, 10' mast heights, zero turn, etc.

Typical applications

The EX20 Excavator attachment offers  mobility, reach and low clearance while retaining the speed and toughness of larger Watson Rigs.  Mast lengths down to 10 ft  and excavator classes down to 10 ton allow exceptional performance on limited access jobs.
